Unfortunately, we had to make the decision to cancel this year’s SC CAGC PAC Golf Tournament.
The club asked us months ago to make a call on whether to hold the tournament this month. At that time, we were told we would have to bring in enough extra golf carts to accommodate all golfers using their own cart. That cost would have negatively affected our ability to raise money for the PAC.
Instead, we are going to look at rescheduling the tournament in 2021.
As I am sure you know, we are in the middle of the election season. We recently made several campaign contributions and requests are still coming in.
Also, the legislature in SC has just completed their work and we were pleased to see them support our last effort to pass the Business License Tax reform legislation. While not perfect, the legislation includes much-needed reform to the business license tax system. The bill requires:
- A standard application form
- Renewal date
- Appeals procedure and class schedule
- Creation of a central online payment portal administered by a governmental agency that ensures taxpayer data remains protected.
- A change on the collection of the tax base from gross to net revenue
We are also excited to see the launch of the Be Pro Be Proud mobile workshop. This is the skilled trades mobile workshop that I worked to secure funding for from the SC General Assembly. It is 53-foot, double-expandable, 18-wheeler that features hands-on simulators for commercial driving, heavy equipment operation, carpentry, welding, electrical, CNC machine operation, and more.
The most exciting news is that since the launch a little over a month ago, the truck already has over 85 tours booked through May 2021.
Here’s a sneak peak, but it’s so much better in person. I hope you will plan to tour the Be Pro Be Proud mobile workshop that is going to be at Hood Construction, 1050 Shop Road, Columbia, on October 26, 2020 from 1 – 4 p.m.
Even though we are not holding the tournament this month, we do have the option for our members to make donations to the PAC if you are so inclined. Otherwise, stay tuned for information on when we can next hit the links.
Thank you for your continued support.
