Honor Richard and His Legacy of Supporting Students Who Want to Work in the Highway-Heavy Industry

Richard passed away suddenly in March 2020. He was President of Carolina Bridge Co, a four-plus decade family owned bridge building company in Orangeburg, S.C. Richard was passionate about his family, his friends, and building bridges. One thing that was very important to Richard was helping recruit people to work in the heavy highway industry. He wasn’t concerned about a person’s past or what degree someone held, if you were a good person and a hard worker Richard was willing to give anyone a chance to work in the industry that he loved. To honor Richard and his legacy of supporting students who want to work in the heavy highway industry, The Richard Nickel Scholarship has been formed. Each year, at least one scholarship will be awarded to a student in South Carolina who is interested in attending a Technical/Trade School and then entering the heavy highway industry.

Technical/Trade School Scholarship - assistance for those individuals seeking to enter the construction/construction-related industry by obtaining the necessary skills/technical training at a trade or technical school: At minimum, one (1) scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded to one (1) current or incoming student at an accredited Technical/Trade School in South Carolina.
